I picked up the Sally Hansen Advanced Hard As Nails Strengthening Top Coat after reading that it helps protect fragile nails—and after a few weeks of use, I can confidently say it’s a solid pick for beginners. What drew me to this top coat is that it does double duty—it not only adds a glossy finish to my manicure but also claims to strengthen and protect weak, brittle nails. Since I’ve had a history of peeling and breakage, I was excited to see if this would help. The application is smooth and easy, thanks to the wide brush that covers the nail in just a couple of strokes. The formula is clear, non-goopy, and self-leveling, which makes it very beginner-friendly. Even with my shaky hand, I managed a streak-free finish. It definitely adds a high-shine glossy top layer that makes my polish look fresh and professionally done. Over the course of two weeks, I noticed my nails felt harder and snapped less easily, especially at the edges where I usually get splits. I’ve even worn it on bare nails, and it gives them a polished, natural look while still providing that protective coat. It’s a great everyday option even when you’re not wearing color. Now for the one downside: the dry time is longer than I’d like. While it feels touch-dry in a few minutes, it can still dent or smudge easily if you’re not patient. I’ve learned to wait at least 15–20 minutes before doing anything with my hands, especially after applying over multiple polish layers. A quick-dry spray or drops might help if you’re in a rush. Overall, this is a fantastic top coat for anyone just starting their nail care routine at home. It’s affordable, strengthening, and shiny, and it’s helped me feel more confident doing my own nails. Just give it time to dry properly, and you’ll be impressed by how long your manicure lasts. Highly recommend for nail newbies looking for a little extra protection and polish!

I like Sally Hansen products because they are reasonably priced and perform well. After I finished a bottle of cheap dollar store top coat I bought this. It created a nice hard layer that was very shiny. It dried quickly too. The picture is two days after this was applied over a set of nails wraps, making sure to cap my nails. In addition to routine daily activities I washed my car and my dog, did some gardening, prepped fruits and veggies for canning and completed some home maintenance tasks. I certainly did not baby my nails. On day 13 I noticed the first chip. I am very satisfied getting close to 2 weeks with my nail wraps and this top coat. I couldn't imagine going much longer because I am already showing quite a bit of growth and I am ready for a change.
