Human Values above Religion
Great book which throws light on the sudden twist in the relationships between brothers and sisters of different religions who were living together for decades. Tamas brings to forefront that all Communal riots in any form is only created and executed by very few vested interests for their selfish needs . But in between all these chaos, how the human values finally win. Tamas also shows how the values are decreasing from one generation to succeeding generation which is actually true considering the current situation. Hats off to Bhisham Sahni for writing this wonderful book based on India's Partition

Darkness of Turbulent Times
The book and later TV mini series gives a closer to life of the partition of the Indian subcontinent in 1947. Brisham Sahni, came as a refugee to India from West Punjab (now in Pakistan) and the story is perhaps partly autobiographical. Tamas along with Khushwant Singh's Train to Pakistan are excellent accounts of those turbulent times.

I really appreciate Sahni's work because he has definitely focused not only on one aspect of partition. He has really strong command on language. You will find essence of Indianness in English language as well. You will also be able to relate feelings with the speakers of the novel. Moreover, the story in every chapter is connected by a string. It feels like people are carrying others' stories and also adding their own in the string. Totally a realistic novel and also covers psychological aspect.

Truth unveiled
The quality of the book is good. A complete fictionalized piece of writing of the public violence amongst Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs against each other. Tamas conveys perspective of the sanguinary condition of division.
